Extremely Large Amount of Fused Segments in a Rare Case of Klippel-Feil Syndrome.

چکیده
Klippel-Feil Syndrome (KFS) is a complex, congenital condition, originally described by Maurice Klippel and Andre Feil in 1912.1 It is characterized by congenital fusion of two or more cervical vertebrae. Because of the abnormal fusion process and altered spinal biomechanics with undue motion at the non-fused cervical segment, adjacent to fused segments, such individuals are predisposed to abnormal cervical spine degeneration that could lead to canal stenosis at the level of a non-fused cervical segment, resulting later in undesirable instability and potential injury to neural elements.2,3 We present a rare case of multiple vertebrae fusions of cervical segment, thoracic segment and lumbar segment with multiple level vertebral canal stenosis in a patient with KFS.

Klippel-Feil syndrome – the risk of cervical spinal cord injury: A case report
BACKGROUND Klippel-Feil syndrome is defined as congenital fusion of two or more cervical vertebrae and is believed to result from faulty segmentation along the embryo's developing axis during weeks 3-8 of gestation. Persons with Klippel-Feil syndrome and cervical stenosis may be at increased risk for spinal cord injury after minor trauma as a result of hypermobility of the various cervical segm...

متن کاملBryan artificial cervical disc arthroplasty in a patient with Klippel-Feil syndrome.
Technological advances have made more options available for surgical intervention in spinal disorders. From spinal fusion to artificial disc implantation, these advancements have brought great benefits, allowing preservation of spinal motion and flexibility after intervertebral discectomy. Yet the use of artificial discs as a treatment for congenital spinal disorders has been documented in only...
متن کاملANESTHETIC MANAGEMENT IN A CASE OF KLIPPEL-FElL SYNDROME AND LITERATURE REVIEW
Klippel-Feil syndrome is known by the classic triad of shortness of the neck , limitation of neck movements, and a low posterior hairline. There are often accompanying cervical spinal abnormalities such as kyphoscoliosis as well as urogenital and cardiac abnormalities. Presented here we have a 20 year old young man with hypoesthesia and decreased motor function in the right hand. The probl...
متن کاملRubral lateropulsion due to vertebral artery dissection in a patient with Klippel-Feil syndrome.
BACKGROUND Neurologic deficits in patients with Klippel-Feil syndrome usually are attributed to direct compression of neuronal structures or hypoperfusion secondary to compression of the vertebral arteries by bony abnormalities. OBJECTIVE To describe a 38-year-old woman with known Klippel-Feil syndrome who developed lateropulsion. RESULTS The results of magnetic resonance imaging were consi...
